The World Equestrian Championships in Herning: a look at the top event of 2022

The last time Herning was in the riding spotlight was 2013, when it hosted the European Championships for Dressage, Para Dressage and Jumping.

But 2022 was its time to shine again: the Danish city had the honour of hosting the World Championships, the most important event for dressage, vaulting, jumping and para dressage, acting as a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

An impressive 50 countries participated, with 1200 horses and 800 riders and vaulters.

This year, Sweden dominated the podium in the team and individual events.

It was a reconfirmation for the team of premier riders (made up of Henrick Von Eckermann, Peder Fredricson, and Malyn-Baryard-Jhonsson) who had already won gold as a team at the Tokyo Olympics the year before, and which now, with the addition of Jens Fredricson, has headed to the highest step on the podium once again.

It was thrilling competition for all spectators but especially for the Swedes in attendance, seeing as it was the nation’s first gold medal in the team category, and the fact that Sweden earned two-fold gold thanks to the incredible ride by Von Eckermann, who came in first in the individual round.

Their joy was shared by the Renaissance team, which was delighted to see three of its brand ambassadors on the podium: Von Eckermann (who rode King Edward with the Renaissance M  ), and Peder (Renaissance F2S  ) and Jens Fredricson (Renaissance F2  ).
