As the daughter of Olympian and Canadian legend Ian Millar, Amy Millar was born into equestrian sport, riding horses at an early age on the family farm. Training alongside her father and older brother Jonathon, she also found her niche as a show jumper. As a 19 year-old in 1996, she entered the Grand Prix ranks riding Zagal. That same year, they won an individual silver medal at the North American Young Riders’ Championship. Three years later she made her international debut with the Canadian Jumping Team in the Nations Cup at the Washington International Horse Show. In 2000, she made history with her father and brother at the Spruce Meadows Masters tournament in Calgary as they became the first family of three to compete for a Canadian Nations Cup team. Amy enjoyed great success with her mount Costa Rica Z, which included a second place finish with Canada at the 2009 Nations Cup Promotional League Final.

After missing the first half of the 2010 season while on maternity leave, Millar achieved the most consistent season of her career and in January 2012 was ranked a career high fourth in Canada. In 2015 she began competing with Heros. The pair were Canada’s top performers at the 2016 Nations Cup in Ocala, Florida. Millar and Heros made their Olympic debut at Rio 2016 where they were part of Canada’s 4th place finish in the team event, losing a jump-off for bronze to Germany. Amy was selected as reserved rider for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 with Truman.
